McFly bassist Dougie Poynter has always been known for being somewhat unusual – he’s a big fan of lizards, invisibility cloaks and taxidermy – so it’s no surprise that he is really looking forward to doing all sorts of weird things on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the whole thing. Living in the jungle’s going to be pretty rad.

“I’m going to learn some new skills, like digging holes, setting traps and general life skills.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the whole thing. Living in the jungle’s going to be pretty rad.

“I would give everything a go. I can eat 863 bugs in a minute.

“The whole reason I’m doing this is to capture some pets and bring them back.”

What a strange young man. Dougie also revealed what his luxury item will be in the camp: “I’m taking a headband… it’s one of my favourites. I know how it fits and it smells good as well.”

It sounds like he might give Jessica Jane Clement a run for her money in the bikini stakes. He said: “I’m going to be wearing a white bikini! I’m going to work my moves.”

And he’s not happy about Gillian McKeith’s antics in the Australian bush last year, reckoning she’s foiled anyone’s plans to have a little feinting break. He said: “Gillian’s ruined it for everyone now… everyone will think I’m just faking fainting if I do it. Last time I passed out was having an eye test.”

Dougie will be spending his birthday (November 30) in the jungle and is after some pretty sensible presents. He said: “I want doorstops for my birthday. Interesting doorstops!”

And although he is second favourite to win the series, after Mark Wright, Dougie said that he’s not sure everyone will get on with him. He said: “After a week I think everyone will be sick off me. I’ll probably say something that will put them off me.”

We doubt that very much – he’s one of the most genuine, if not a bit strange, celebrities we’ve ever come across and will be putting money on him taking the I’m A Celebrity crown.
